CG Drives & Automation: Technological innovation and sustainable development in focus
CG Drives & Automation has been a global player in the manufacturing of frequency converters and soft starters for over 40 years. With headquarters in Helsingborg and a strong global presence, the company is an important player in its industry. We spoke to Irené Josefsson, responsible for sales, inside sales and service in the Nordics, to gain insight into the company's operations and future prospects.
What is CG Drives & Automation?

CG Drives & Automation, also known as Emotron, is headquartered in Helsingborg, Sweden, where both production and development take place. The company also has operations in India and its own offices in Germany, the Netherlands and Dubai. Globally, it works with partners and distributors to ensure a presence in key markets.
“Our strength lies in the combination of local production and development, as well as our global presence,” says Irené Josefsson. This gives us a broad understanding of the market's needs and opportunities.
The importance of membership in the ELR
As a member of ELR, CG Drives & Automation sees great opportunities to influence important industry issues, especially within energy efficiency.
– For us as a Swedish manufacturer, it is important to be able to influence issues such as energy optimization. The networking within ELR is also invaluable – we have made many valuable contacts that both strengthen our business operations and give us a better understanding of market developments, says Josefsson.
Adaptation to technological changes
In a rapidly changing technological environment, it is crucial to keep up with developments. CG Drives & Automation does this through close collaboration with customers.
“Having both development and production in Sweden means we can adapt quickly to customer needs. Our global presence also gives us insights from different markets, which strengthens our innovative power,” says Josefsson.
Important issues for the industry
When it comes to the future of the industry, Josefsson emphasizes the importance of a reliable and sustainable supply chain.
“Local roots, both in terms of service and knowledge, are crucial. It not only ensures quality but also contributes to sustainability,” she says.
Challenges ahead
The industry faces several challenges, especially when it comes to skills supply and technological innovations.
– We need to attract younger generations to the industry and invest in educating them. It is an art to be able to ”listen to a pump” or ”feel vibrations in an engine”. Unfortunately, we see that technical competence is becoming increasingly rare at the same time as development and production are often moved to developing countries, concludes Josefsson.
