Electrical service – with a focus on recycling electric motors
Elektroservice sells and refurbishes electric motors, tools and all equipment that contains electromechanics. Here you will also find one of Sweden's largest warehouses of industrial components.
Can you tell us what Elektroservice does and what your role at the company is?
Elektroservice is basically an electromechanical workshop that was started in 1969 by my father, but for the past 25 years it has been me and my brother who have run the company, says Christer Eskilson, one of the owners of Elektroservice.
We rewind and modify electric motors like many other ELR members, but we also build a lot of control systems. We sell complete drive systems and work a lot with commissioning and optimizing frequency converters. We work closely with our customers to make their facilities more energy efficient.
You could say that we help our customers create a good balance between recycling and purchasing new products. This way, the customer gets sustainable production with as little environmental impact as possible.
For my part, I spend a lot of time in the office with emails and on the phone to manage relationships with customers and suppliers. But if I get the chance, I'm happy to go out and troubleshoot when, for example, the customer can't get their slip-ringed engine for the stone crusher to start.
The benefits of being a member of ELR and how membership benefits the business
I would have to say the biggest advantage is the networking and all the tips you can get from colleagues. Together we have an incredible amount of knowledge and experience.
Then we have our own tailor-made training courses that ensure that our electromechanics receive a good education. I recently took our diploma course, which was very rewarding. There were many good discussions when electromechanics from different workshops are brought together.
Important issues and activities that the industry is pursuing and monitoring
All members struggle with roughly the same issues, especially when it comes to contact with authorities and other organizations. I think the environment, quality, sustainability and safety issues are important issues that we should monitor and where we can greatly benefit from each other.
As many in our industry come into contact with electrical installations, it is important that we continue to focus on training and that we work safely and follow all laws and regulations.
The industry's challenges in the coming years
I must say that it is very grateful to be the chairman of an industry association like ELR! All companies in Swedish industry and operations within municipal and regional administration need to have access to an electromechanical workshop.
The biggest challenge for us is to maintain and increase our level of expertise and new recruitment as we have competition from many other service professions.
Manage the supply of skills by spreading knowledge about the profession early
Here we have an important task in ELR; to make ourselves more visible and get out information about how fun it is to be an electromechanic and what incredibly broad professional knowledge you gain.
There is a project being run together with other industry groups on a general service technician training at high school level. It is important that we are involved and help in these types of projects in order to be visible in the future.
